BREWER – Seven vehicles near Brewer Housing Authority properties were broken into Sunday night and Monday morning, including one whose owner reported $3,000 to $4,000 worth of CDs taken, police said.

Sgt. Richard Smith said Brewer police received numerous calls Monday morning of windows broken in vehicles.

After arriving at Colonial Circle, officers found other vehicles in the outer Chamberlain Street and Beacon Street area also had been vandalized. Four of the seven vehicles had windows smashed.

“They either were entering unlocked vehicles or breaking windows to gain entry,” Smith said.

CDs, cash and change were reported missing from the vehicles.

Officers were asking people who were in the area between 10 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday to call them. The first police report was taken at 5:40 a.m.

Some of the vehicles were located in residential parking for the Ellen M. Leach Memorial Home and others were in the housing authority complex, said Dorothy Igoe, Brewer Housing Authority executive director.

Smith reminded vehicle owners to remove anything of value from vehicles. Those with information about the thefts can call the Brewer Police Department at 989-7001.
