The winds of change

As an Aroostook native and frequent traveler on Route 1 North with usually more than one passenger on board, we all take delight in viewing the wind farm. We are summarily disappointed if the “wings” are obscured by weather because we want to see how many are turning.

We view their placement as beautiful, serene, unique.

To us, the scarring necessary for the ski business is more disfiguring and damaging to “nature.”

We have viewed wind farms in Europe and Canada with the same pleasing reaction.

Just regard the communications tower in front of the Maine State Police barracks on Route 1 in Houlton: Now that is something to turn one’s stomach, let alone head!

Quite frankly, Mainers have cause to be thankful for so much: a few sleek, silver spires shining against the sky can be tolerated with the power potential and no pollution.
