HOULTON – Police continue to investigate a break-in at St. Mary’s Catholic Church that occurred earlier in the week.
The break-in happened sometime late on Sunday night or early on Monday morning, Butch Asselin, chief of the Houlton Police Department, said on Tuesday. The incident was reported to police just after 5:30 a.m. Monday.
According to Asselin, police believe that two perpetrators gained entry into the Military Street church by kicking in a door.
Nothing was reported stolen from the building, the chief said, but the perpetrators did try to steal money from a soda machine in the parish center, which is located on the ground floor of the facility.
Asselin said that police have a few leads in the case.
Cpl. Dana Duff and Detective Troy Fitzpatrick are investigating the incident.
