WHEATON, Ill. – Cody Paladino of Kensington, Conn., eliminated Jesse Speirs of Bangor 1 up in their Round of 16 match Thursday in the 82nd U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship at Cantigny Golf Club.

Speirs evened the 18-hole match by winning the 10th hole with a par 4, but Paladino won 11 and 12 to go 2 up.

After Speirs trimmed it to one by winning the 14th hole with a par, they matched scores on each of the last four holes.

Speirs had defeated Richard Lee of Issaquah, Wash., 1 up earlier Thursday in the Round of 32.

Speirs was 3 up at the turn, but Lee won the next three to tie the match. Speirs won 14 and 16 to take the lead for good. Lee won 17 and they halved 18.
