4 teams record victories Brewer, Old Town, Bangor, Hampden win

BANGOR – Brewer, Old Town, Bangor, and Hampden each picked up baseball victories over the weekend in first-round games of the District 3 Senior League All-Star tourney at Mansfield Stadium.

Brewer beat Holbrook 14-3 and Old Town edged Orono-Veazie 10-9 on Saturday while Bangor stopped Katahdin Valley 11-6 and Hampden beat Glenburn-Levant 3-1 on Sunday.

On Monday, Brewer will play Old Town at 5 p.m. and Bangor will take on Hampden at 7:30 p.m. In Wednesday’s elimination round, Holbrook plays Orono-Veazie at 5 p.m. and Katahdin Valley takes on Glenburn-Levant at 7:30 p.m.

The winner of the tourney gains a berth in the Senior League World Series which begins on Aug. 12.

On Saturday, Brewer sent 10 runners to the plate in a seven-run first inning to roll past Holbrook. Dylan Fitzpatrick recorded three singles and two RBIs to pace Brewer and Eric White added two doubles.

Matt Duplisea notched three singles for Holbrook and Brandon Carney added two singles and an RBI.

In Saturday’s second game, Chris Cosenze scored the winning run on a wild pitch as Old Town rallied from a 9-0 deficit, Cosenze reached on a two-out walk and advanced to third on an errant pickout throw. Dana Leland pitched a perfect seventh to earn the win.

Josh Coffin tripled, doubled and drove in a run for the winners. Tyler Cates added two singles and an RBI and Lance Getchell hit a two-run triple.

Dan Taft had a single and three RBIs for Orono-Veazie while Tyler Pembroke added a single and two RBIs and Ryan Carr had an RBI single.

In Sunday’s first game, John Cox recorded four singles and an RBI to pace Bangor while Jordan Clark added an RBI triple and double. Lonnie Hackett, Ryan LaRochelle and Zane Gray each chipped in with two singles. Gray also had two RBIs and LaRochelle had one.

Michael Casey and Dakota Sleeper each doubled for Katahdin Valley with Casey driving in a run.

In Sunday’s second game, Jonathan Johnson gave up only three hits and one earned run in six innings and struck out 10 to earn the win for Hampden. Jacob Stevens struck out the side in the seventh to record the save.

Ryan Blake, Ryan McCluskey and Andrew Brown each notched an RBI single for Hampden.

Alan Reese singled twice for Glenburn-Levant.
