Glenburn rallies to win title Hanson’s late run completes comeback

OLD TOWN – The Glenburn Junior League softball All-Star team is heading to the state tournament after beating Old Town 4-3 for the District 3 title Saturday.

Glenburn will open the double-elimination state tourney on Friday, July 27 at 2 p.m. when it battles the champion from District 4.

In Saturday’s District 3 title game, Sarah Hanson scored the winning run on an error in the seventh to give Glenburn the victory.

Old Town jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a run in the first and two more in the second. Glenburn responded with single runs in the third, fifth, and sixth to tie it at 3-3 before rallying with another run to win it in the seventh.

Brei Tocci paced the Glenburn offense with a double, two singles and two RBIs. Alix Rudzinski chipped in with two singles to back winning pitcher Jessie Devou, who scattered five hits.

Megan Cousins led Old Town with two singles and two RBIs.

In the first game, Old Town advanced to the title game by beating Bangor 11-8.

Lindsey Blair singled twice and drove in three runs to lead Old Town. Rachel Goodwin hit a two-run single and McKayla Gastia doubled and singled. Annie Cashon and Ashley England had two singles and an RBI each.

Kami Prendergast hit a two-run single for Bangor and Meghan Hope had two singles and an RBI.
