According to Gayle Durnbaugh, the “Blue Hill Historical Society is in full swing this summer, with its own Blue Hill Antique Road Show, guided walking tours of the village, and regular hours for tours” of its headquarters, the Jeremiah Holt House.
Durnbaugh reports the BHHS Antique Show is 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday, July 19, in the society’s newly renovated Carriage House, directly behind the Holt House, 5 Water St. in central Blue Hill village.
Attendees can have one item appraised for $15, two for $25, or three for $35.
Walkers gather at 9 a.m. Tuesdays and Fridays at the Holt House for the guided walking tours of the village, which is “a new program this year,” Durnbaugh wrote.
The walks take “about two hours, with history and anecdotes about homes and other historic buildings along the way.”
The “walks are not demanding, but are for everyone,” she wrote, and include light refreshments. The suggested donation for the walk is $5.
The walks include Parker Point Road, Tuesday, July 24; Pleasant Street and Kneisel Hall, Friday, July 27; Tenney Hill and Main Street, Friday, Aug. 3; Pleasant Street, Tuesday, Aug. 7; and Union and Main streets, Friday, Aug. 17.
Durnbaugh also wants readers to know the Holt House is open for tours 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays, and 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays.
“The house was built in 1815 on Blue Hill Harbor, by Jeremiah Holt, an early Blue Hill businessman,” Durnbaugh wrote, “and features 19th century wall stencils, quilts and furnishings, as well as toys and tools” of that era and the early 20th century.
“It also boasts navigational tools of early sailors, and a pump organ like those sold through [the] Sears, Roebuck catalog early in the 1900s.”

Carolyn Eaton reports the Women’s Church Fair is 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at Brooksville United Methodist Church, Coastal Road, Route 176, in South Brooksville, “next door to Buck’s Harbor Market and Condon’s Garage,” she wrote.
New this year are theme baskets “lovingly put together by the ladies of the church,” ranging from “a lobster basket to a child’s play basket,” all exceeding $50 in value and some containing surprises.
To obtain tickets for the basket drawing, which will be held at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, during the annual Church Dessert Auction, you can buy a lollipop-ticket at the fair or purchase one from any member of the United Methodist Women.
At the fair you also will find lots of good things to eat as well as “trash and treasures” and handcrafts.
