Boy struck by car, suffers leg injury in Veazie

A 6-year-old boy was injured Monday after he was struck by a vehicle in Greystone Trailer Park off State Street in Veazie, where he lives with his family.

The boy, whose name was not released, was taken by ambulance to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he was being treated for injuries to his leg, which appeared to have been fractured, according to Officer Justin Angelo of the Veazie Police Department.

“He was absolutely amazing. He didn’t cry at all,” Angelo said.

According to Angelo, the accident occurred about 6 p.m. as Ronald Mullins, 47, the mobile home park’s resident manager, was backing out of a short side street.

Mullins apparently did not see the child, who was crouched in the street behind the vehicle, Angelo said. No charges are pending. (Dawn Gagnon, BDN)

After several weeks of investigation, Milo police summoned a 16-year-old Orneville boy last week to juvenile court for three counts of unlawful sexual touching.

The boy reportedly touched four girls in inappropriate places while they were attending classes at Penquis Valley High School, according to Milo Police Chief Michael Poulin.

He said school counselors reported the incidents to Sgt. Terry Smith, who spent considerable time interviewing the victims, witnesses and the boy.

One of the victims was too fearful of the boy to press charges, he said. The other three, ages 15 and 16, have since taken out protection from abuse orders, he said Monday.

The boy is expected to make his initial court appearance on Aug. 20 in 13th District Court in Dover-Foxcroft. (Diana Bowley, BDN)
