Brewer records sixth straight win Victory sets up district championship game vs. Bangor East today

BREWER – Tony Bischoff’s two-run single in the bottom of the third gave the Brewer All-Stars the lead and they went on to hand Bangor East its first loss, 7-2, in the District 3 Little League baseball tourney for ages 11-12 Tuesday.

The win set up today’s championship game at 5:30 p.m. at Bangor East’s Taylor Field. Brewer has battled through the losers’ bracket after a loss on July 3 with six straight wins to force the final.

Matt Morrow chipped in with two singles and an RBI to back winning pitcher Kyle Alexander. Zach Violette and Spencer Valley each added a triple with Violette driving in a run and Ben Pushard contributed with an RBI single.

Nick Ashey cranked a solo home run for Bangor East, Collin Kimsey added a triple and single and Ben Mann slammed an RBI triple.

Brewer 11, Millinocket 4

At Bangor, Evan Riva, Greg Warmuth and Logan Rogerson combined to pitch a no-hitter and recorded 10 strikeouts to lead Brewer past Millinocket.

Riva hit a double and two singles to lead Brewer. Seth Pushard singled three times and Chase Allen doubled and singled.

Marc Morneault walked twice and scored a run for Millinocket.

Bucksport I 21, Bucksport II 3

At Bucksport, Zach Clark hit two singles and a double to drive in two runs to lead Bucksport I to victory over Bucksport II.

Matt Stewart had three singles and three RBIs for Bucksport I and Josh Chapman doubled and singled with three RBIs.

Nic Choinard hit a two-run single to lead Bucksport II and Derek Stoddard added an RBI single.

At Bar Harbor, Ben Walls allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out eight and drove in three runs on a double and a single to lead Acadian past Ellsworth for the District 1 championship.

The game was a continuation from Sunday’s suspended game.

Caleb Cough had three singles and an RBI for Acadian and Seth Vandergrift doubled and singled to drive in a run. John Gallego doubled and singled.

Steven Mahon singled and scored a run for Ellsworth and Brandon Braley singled.

Bucksport 5, Calais 1

At Calais, Tim Nason allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out three to lead Bucksport past Calais.

They will play again in Bucksport at 5:30 p.m. today for the championship.

Matt Swazey doubled and singled with an RBI for Bucksport and Tyler French doubled and singled.

Ryan Cavanaugh singled and scored on an Adam Geel fielder’s choice for Calais.

State tourney, Junior League

Ellsworth rebounds for win

At Portland, Pat Kelley pitched a two-hit shutout, allowing two walks and striking out five to lead Ellsworth to a 12-0 win over Sacopee Valley on Tuesday in the Maine State Senior League tourney at Hadlock Field.

New Gloucester defeated Ellsworth 11-1 on Monday.

In Monday’s game, Thomas Rich had a triple and two singles to drive in two runs for New Gloucester and Taylor Valente added a two-run single. Joe Billings and Drew Densmore both doubled and singled.

Brad Folmer doubled and scored a run in the first inning for Ellsworth.

In Tuesday’s game, Folmer hit a double and two singles to knock in two runs for Ellsworth. Tyler Salsbury singled twice and Matt Boyle hit a two-run single. Kelley and Jason Sprague added RBI singles.

Devin Pendexter and Shawn Dunnell singled for Sacopee Valley.
