BELFAST – A U.S. Coast Guard jet based at the Cape Cod air station will conduct a fast and low flyover of the city at noon today in tribute to the visiting crew from the World War II frigate USS Belfast.
The flyover also will salute the icebreaker USCG Bridle, which will be in Belfast on Thursday, and mark the opening day of the Maine Celtic Celebration.
The jet is a HU25 Falcon fixed-wing jet that has a cruising speed of 350 knots, a ceiling of 42,000 feet, and a four-hour endurance range. The Falcon is used for fisheries patrol, homeland security and search-and-rescue operations. It is based on Cape Cod in a sprawling base at Bourne, Mass. The jet will fly over the breakwater and Main and Front streets.
