GUILFORD – A parade, games, food and music will all be part of the third annual River Festival on Saturday, July 28, sponsored by the Guilford Area Kiwanis Club.
Club member Judy Folsom said new offerings this year include a chili cook-off with a $50 prize for the best chili, a treasure hunt with prizes for both children and adults, and an inner tube race on the river.
This year will be the first time that the Maine Veterans Vietnam Moving Wall will be on display, and it will be accompanied by a Vietnam POW/MIA moving wall made by Guilford resident Ralph Eastman.
Other events will include breakfast at 8 a.m. at the United Methodist Church and a 5K road race at 9 a.m. Entertainment from 11 a.m. until dark will feature local talents such as the Pig Muffin Band, Fishers of Men and Thorn Hill. There will be an open mike at 5 p.m.
An antique car cruise-in will be on the outfield at the baseball diamond and a daylong horse shoe tournament will be held on the riverbank.
Folsom said many games for children will be offered and the firefighters will hold their annual muster.
The Kiwanis also will conduct its annual rubber duck race to raise funds for a combination skate park and ice skating rink in Guilford.
