Leeman helps Comrades win three Webb, Crews spark Bangor to weekend sweeps; Trenton tops Brewer

BANGOR – Kyle Leeman allowed just two hits and five walks while striking out 13 to lead Bangor to the shutout win over Lincoln 7-0 in Saturday’s nightcap. Bangor also won the first game 5-1 over Lincoln and then defeated Orono 12-3 on Sunday in American Legion baseball action.

In Saturday’s first game, Gordon Webb doubled and singled with two RBIs for Bangor. Ian Edwards hit a two-run triple and Kyle Vanidestine added an RBI double.

Donnie Russell led Lincoln with an RBI single.

In Saturday’s second game, Tom Crews had a double and a single to drive in two runs for the Comrades. Webb singled three times and knocked in a run. Tyson Barron had two doubles and a single and Edwards added a two-run double.

Tyler Thompson and Aaron Saurier singled for the Lumber.

In Sunday’s game, Edwards hit a two-run double and two singles to lead Bangor. Crews doubled and singled with an RBI and Alex Gallant and Neal Russell each had two singles and an RBI.

Corey Fournier led Orono with two singles and an RBI and Dana Leland also singled twice.

Presque Isle 8, Penquis 6

At Dover-Foxcroft on Sunday, Tom Desjardins had four hits, including a two-run home run in the top of the second inning, as Presque Isle clinched the No. 5 spot in the Zone 1 tournament field.

Despite the loss, 10-10 Penquis earned the sixth and final berth in the double-elimination tournament by virtue of 9-11 Orono’s loss to Bangor on Sunday.

The left-handed Desjardins also doubled and singled twice to pace Presque Isle’s 13-hit attack. Mike Cleary added a home run and a double for the 11-8 Patriots, while Harry Austin singled twice and Matt McGlinn doubled.

Andrew York and Hunter Caron combined to pitch a three-hitter for Presque Isle, York working the first seven innings.

Dan Beatham hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the ninth for Penquis.

Brewer sweeps Calais

At Brewer Saturday, Chris Maguire and Billy Bissell combined on a 1-hitter with 11 strikeouts and three walks as the Falcons earned an 11-1 win over the Suns in the second game of a doubleheader. Brewer won the first game 12-3.

In the first game, Mike Kotredes drove in three runs on a double and two singles. Ricky Adams hit three singles and tallied two RBIs, while Pat Demmons hit a double and a single, and drove in a run.

Justin LeBlanc singled twice for Calais. Scott Geel and Nick Kohler each had an RBI single.

In the second game, Maguire fanned eight and allowed one hit in six innings. He also hit a solo home run and singled for two RBIs. Reid McLaughlin drove in two runs on two singles and a double and Steve Klenowski singled twice for two RBIs.

Tommy Pottle doubled for Calais.

At Brewer Sunday, right fielder Colin Ciomei ended a Falcon rally when he jumped to grab a Chris Maguire line-drive with two outs and two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth inning, sealing the win for the Acadians.

Collin Henry and Lucas Marks of Trenton each had an RBI single in the top of the ninth. Henry also hit a solo home run. Sam Merrill hit a two-run homer and had an RBI single. Josh Astbury singled twice.

Eddie Robbins drove in three runs on two doubles and a single for Brewer, which faced a 13-7 deficit going into the ninth inning. Ricky Adams recorded an RBI triple and an RBI single, while Jimmy Nicknair had an RBI double and an RBI single. Mike Kotredes hit three singles.
