Bangor, Brewer seek World Series berth Rivals meet tonight in District 3 final

BANGOR – Cross-river rivals Bangor and Brewer will battle tonight at 7 for the right to go to the Senior League World Series after Bangor beat Brewer 6-5 Tuesday night in the championship round of the District 3 All-Star tourney at Mansfield Stadium to force the if-necessary game.

Bangor has battled back through the losers’ bracket and handed Brewer its first loss in the tourney. Tonight’s winner advances the SLWS in Bangor Aug. 12-18.

Jordan Clarke singled three times and drove in three runs to help lead Bangor to the narrow win over Brewer. John Cox doubled and singled to knock in a run for Bangor.

Dylan Fitzpatrick had a double and a single with two RBIs to pace Brewer.

Ellsworth I 5, Acadian 4

At Ellsworth, Bryce Scott scored the winning run on a Jared Brown single in the sixth inning to lead Ellsworth I past Acadian of Bar Harbor.

The same two teams will play for the championship today at 5:30 p.m. in Bar Harbor.

Griffin Nightingale led Ellsworth I with two singles and three RBIs.

Tanner Bickford doubled for Acadian and Jack Sasher singled twice.

At Bucksport, Brian Jones hit three doubles and drove in four runs to lift Ellsworth over Bucksport.

Jacob Poors had two doubles and three runs scored for Ellsworth and Evan Van Dorn singled twice.

Tyler Maguire hit an RBI double for Bucksport and Nate Gray singled twice.

Bangor East 5, Acadian 4

At Auburn, Matt Cosgrove hit two-run double in the sixth innnig to give Bangor East the lead and eventual win over Acadian.

Ben Mann homered in the first inning for Bangor East and Bryan Rouleau added a double.

State tourney, Junior League

Bucksport, Bangor post wins

At Bucksport, Andrew Giosia hit a two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel the Bucksport All-Stars to a 3-2 victory over Lewiston in the state Junior League baseball tournament.

Bangor later defeated South Portland 20-4 in six innings.

In the first game, Evan Eldridge added two singles and Tyler French a double for Bucksport.

Mekae Hyde had an RBI single and Joe Sullivan doubled and singled for Lewiston.

In the second game, Josiah Hartley knocked a grand slam and Jack Stacey singled three times to knock in three runs to power Bangor.

Joe Stanevick doubled twice, tripled and scored three times while Tyler Desjardins added two singles and a double for the winners.

Jack Bushey had an RBI single for South Portland.

At Calais, Paige Gillespie homered and added two singles and a double as Calais won the District 1 title.

Jasmine Ross and Olivia Smith had three singles apiece while Taylorae Carter had a pair of singles and a double for Calais.

Toni Bridges singled for Machias.
