GLENBURN – Erin Norris, the daughter of Diane and John Norris of Glenburn, has won a state poster contest sponsored by Shade Foundation, which promotes sun safety.
Erin, who is entering seventh grade at Glenburn Elementary School, received a $250 savings bond and also won a $500 grant to promote sun safety in the school.
School nurse Tammy Campbell came to classrooms to teach pupils about the dangers of the sun’s rays and how to protect skin from damaging rays.
Erin’s suggestions for keeping safe in the sun are:
. Seek shade.
. Wear sunscreen.
. Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., limit sun time.
. Cover up.
. Wear sunglasses.
. Wear a hat.
Erin has been entered in the national competition, where prizes include a trip to Disney World and $5,000 for the school.
Erin and the other state winners in the region and their families were guests at a Boston Red Sox game last weekend.
Members of the public can vote for Erin’s poster, No. 13, at www.shadefoundation.org.
