CARRABASSETT VALLEY – John Hickson of Topsham held on to his opening-day lead and won the State of Maine Championship golf tournament at Sugarloaf Golf Club. Hickson shot an even-par 72 Wednesday for a two-day score of 140 to win by two strokes over Bob Darling of Auburn and Mark Plummer of Augusta. Hickson takes home $2,200 in prize money. Darling tied the Sugarloaf course record of 67 Wednesday. Plummer shot 68 Tuesday and 74 Wednesday.
