ROCKLAND – A woman from Jackson was ordered Friday to spend three years in prison for trying to help her husband break out of the Maine State Prison last year.

Susan Watland was sentenced in Knox County Superior Court to eight years in prison, with five of those years suspended, followed by three years of probation.

Watland pleaded guilty in May to trafficking in prison contraband, aiding escape, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

Watland was arrested last October with a loaded gun in the prison parking lot as she was going to visit her husband, who is serving a 25-year sentence for shooting his neighbor to death in 2004.
