Police seek man near Ambajejus Lake

AMBAJEJUS LAKE – A Salem, N.H., man who was talking incoherently at a campground at Ambajejus Lake near Millinocket on Saturday and who bolted when police arrived was the subject of a search.

The Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department received calls about 7 p.m. Saturday from campers who said a man was acting strangely and that his statements made no sense, according to Investigator Jamie Kane.

When Kane and Investigator Dave Wilson arrived, the man gave them a name which was different from one he gave others at the campground, Kane said.

When the officers began to question the man further, he bolted into the woods, he said.

Kane said the man had prematurely left a New Hampshire hospital.

The man is not wanted on any charges and has not shown any aggression, but police are concerned for his well-being.

Assisted by wardens, state police, and local rafting guides, police searched throughout the night until 5 a.m. Sunday for Burke without success.

Because police were unsure if the 1995 Geo Prizm driven by the man had been stolen or had been loaned to him, they impounded the vehicle. Kane said New Hampshire police are assisting him on the matter.

The man is described as 6 feet tall, 190 pounds, has short, blond hair and has an athletic build. He was last seen wearing red shorts and a gray T-shirt.

Police ask that anyone with information about the man contact the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department at 564-3304.
