Taking care of cats

After reading the article (BDN, July 27) on the gentleman who is trapping cats in his yard, I was thinking back to when I lived on Broadway in town and where traffic was very heavy. Even though my cats were indoor cats, my many neighbors’ cats were not.

Several times over the years I picked up dead cats on the street or took several to the vets and paid their medical costs. This was because their owners denied they were theirs because of the vet bills. I would then return them to my home and place them in outdoor kennels that I made until I was able to find caring indoor homes.

No only do cats roam and use other people’s gardens as litter boxes, they are at danger of getting hit by cars, chased by dogs or even worse. … [Until owners are] required to keep their cats indoors, please build an outdoor kennel.

I had one built and attached to the side of my house so the cats could go to and from the kennel through a window to the house. And to the man who does the trapping: Please be humane and make sure the cats are taken care of. After all it’s most likely the owners that need to be in the trap.
