CASTINE – Maine Maritime Academy will host an antique appraisal session in conjunction with its Travel Auction and Gala set for Friday, Aug. 3.

Professional auctioneer Kaja Veilleux of Thomaston Place Auction Galleries, who will conduct the gala auction, and his team will provide fair market value estimates from noon to 4 p.m. from his mobile lab at the parking lot of the Castine town dock. A donation of $5 per item (five items for $20) is requested.

The gala and auction is in its second year and is a fundraiser that benefits student scholarships, student services and academic programs. Last year the event raised more than $30,000.

Tickets are still available for the gala and auction, which recently launched an online Web site, www.mmatravelauction.cmarket.com, to allow previewing and active bidding on donated items. Tickets are $35 per person, tables for groups of six, $150. Seating is limited.

Donations or information, call Donne Sinderson, 326-2470 during business hours.
