CARIBOU – Bridge inspectors have declared the Aroostook River Bridge in Caribou to be in good condition.
A Department of Transportation inspection team this week is inspecting six deck truss bridges around the state after the collapse last week of a similar bridge in Minneapolis.
In Caribou Thursday morning, inspectors used an under-bridge crane to do up-close checks of bridge components. Jim Doucette, DOT bridge maintenance manager for the northern region, said inspectors were on-site for about four hours.
The Aroostook River Bridge was the fifth bridge inspectors have visited so far. Officials have been to bridges in Arrowsic, Falmouth, Medford, and Kittery already. They plan to inspect the Memorial Bridge in Augusta today.
“With the bridges we’ve inspected so far, there have been no surprises,” Herb Thomson, DOT communications director, said Thursday.
He said official results would be issued in the coming days in an inspection report, but that inspectors indicated that everything in Caribou looked fine.
