ADDISON – The Friends of the Church on the Hill continues to plan for restoration and use of the Evangelical Union Church building on Ridge Road. The building was constructed in the 1860s and is on the National Historic Register.
This is the third building on the site. The Friends group said in its press release that the building needs repairs, especially to the belfry and roof and cosmetic work. Bob Garafalo, who inspected the structural integrity of the building, said he thought the first task should be to clean up pigeon droppings in the belfry and to close off that part of the structure to keep out the birds, according to the release.
Friends also possesses the 1839 contract for the second church building and has plans to preserve the document. The Friends group discussed at a recent meeting incorporation to support the building’s restoration, fundraising plans and dues.
Membership is open to anyone interested in this project. Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of each month at the town hall. For information, call Muriel Grant, 483-2276.
