WINSLOW – The Most Rev. Richard J. Malone, bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland, will receive the solemn profession of vows of Friar Rex Anthony Norris at 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Church of St. John the Baptist, 14 Monument St.

As a solitary of St. Francis of Assisi, Norris will make vows of evangelical poverty, chastity and obedience.

Norris, formerly of Orono, is a graduate of the University of Maine with bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He was chaplain for the Old Town and Orono police and fire departments.

As a professional counselor, Norris works two days a week with inmates at a correctional facility in Augusta. He also is a spiritual director, retreat leader and campus minister at Colby College and Thomas College.
