Man claims he was robbed during walk in Bangor park

A 44-year-old male, who is listed as a transient, told Bangor police that he was attacked and robbed by three or four people while walking through a city park early Friday.

The man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center for minor injuries, Bangor police Lt. Jeff Millard said. The man, who suffered cuts to his face, reported that he was walking on a path through Coe Park on Court Street when he was attacked at 2:44 a.m. and that a small amount of cash was taken. A woman with a broken arm wandered into the back yard of 54 Summer St. in Hampden at around 5 p.m. Friday. Homeowners called an ambulance, which took the unidentified woman to a local hospital, Hampden police said. Police said they did not know anything about the woman’s injury or to which hospital she was taken. (Anne Ravana, BDN)

Borders Books, Music and Caf? in Bangor is trying to figure out what to do about a customer who loiters at the store and complains about aliens infecting his brain with E. coli bacteria.

At around 11 a.m. Friday, Bangor police responded to a complaint about the man. Police escorted him off the property but made no arrest, according to Sgt. Larry Weber. (Anne Ravana, BDN)

A tan Toyota Tacoma struck a utility pole guy wire and a tree on Five Road in Carmel on Friday night, setting the tree and vehicle on fire, police said.

The driver, whose name was not released pending notification of relatives, suffered severe but non-life-threatening facial injuries from the impact of the crash, according to Maine State Police Trooper Forrest Simpson. An ambulance took the driver to Eastern Maine Medical Center.

Simpson was called to the scene at 8:55 p.m. He found the heavily damaged vehicle beneath several electrical lines. A transformer broke off the utility pole in the accident.

At 10 p.m., police and fire officials were waiting for Central Maine Power to shut off power to the scene so the truck could be moved.

The cause of the accident was under investigation, Simpson said. (Anne Ravana, BDN)
