Shaine, born in 1999, is creative, artistic and funny. His favorite subject in school is gym. And almost every day at school, he buys popcorn for a snack. His other favorite snack food is banana bread with chocolate chips.
Shaine enjoys playing sports and lists basketball and football among his favorites. When he can’t play outside, Shaine enjoys playing video games, especially SpiderMan and Scooby-Do. He also likes to do arts-and-crafts projects. He has made masks, done some painting and really has fun with his spin art kit.
At home, Shaine tries very hard to keep his room clean. He is doing much better lately and it is improving with his other chores as well. Shaine will usually begin his chores, but will then get distracted by a toy or something else in his room. With redirection, prompting and praise, he can complete the tasks asked of him.
Shaine has contact with two other brothers and it would be best if that could continue in an adoptive home. The three boys enjoy playing together and get along well. Each of them listed “playing with my brothers” among their favorite activities. However, the professionals who work with the boys don’t feel an adoptive placement for all three boys together would be a good idea.
Shaine is among more than 100 children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
