BLUE HILL – The driver of a dump truck injured in an accident last week remained hospitalized Monday, but his condition was improving.
Charles Gomm of Blue Hill, no age available, was listed in good condition at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Gomm was injured last Thursday when the dump truck he was driving for M.E. Astbury & Son of Blue Hill crossed over the centerline on Route 172 and struck three oncoming vehicles. The truck then crossed back over the road, rolled onto its roof and came to rest at the side of the road.
Gomm was trapped in the cab of the truck and emergency crews used hydraulic rescue equipment to free him. He was taken to Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and later transported by helicopter to EMMC.
Four people in one of the vehicles also were treated for lesser injuries.
The accident remains under investigation.
