UM reception planned at Folk Festival

BANGOR – Organizers of the American Folk Festival on the Bangor Waterfront, together with the University of Maine Alumni Association and the Bangor Region Development Alliance, announced Monday that there will be a special reception for UM alumni, students and faculty during this year’s festival, set for Aug. 24-26.

Scheduled for 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, at the Railroad Stage, the reception is being coordinated by the alumni group in partnership with BRDA and festival organizers.

The reception site provides an ideal vantage point from which to enjoy the performance by the Dixie Hummingbirds, who will be performing at that time.

UM President Robert Kennedy will be on hand, as well as UMAA President Todd Saucier and representatives from several Black Bear athletic teams, including women’s basketball coach Cindy Blodgett, men’s ice hockey coach Tim Whitehead, softball coach Stacey Sullivan and men’s basketball coach Ted Woodward.

In addition, the festival’s Bucket Brigade volunteers will hand out UM “bear paw” stickers in thanks for festival donations.
