Jones set to coach Y camp Celtics legend will appear on MDI

BAR HARBOR – K.C. Jones will spend next week in Bar Harbor, running a YMCA basketball camp for children and also hosting a fundraising event at a local golf club.

A Boston Celtics standout both as a player and as a head coach, Jones is one of only seven players in history to have won a NCAA championship, Olympic gold medal and NBA championship.

The basketball camp will run Monday through Friday at the MDI YMCA in Bar Harbor. Participants will have an opportunity to learn from a man with unique basketball accomplishments.

Camp highlights will include station drills, fundamentals, scrimmages and a mini-tournament. Lectures by Jones and other special guests, including former University of Maine men’s basketball coach Skip Chappelle, are also scheduled.

Children ages 7-11 will attend camp from 9 a.m. to noon and children ages 12-18 will attend from 1-4 p.m.

After participating in a local fundraising golf tournament, Jones will host a cocktail party and silent auction Wednesday from 4-6:15 p.m. at Kebo Valley Golf Club on the Cromwell Road in Bar Harbor. The cocktail party/auction is open to the public and they may bid on sports memorabilia.

Admission is $15 per person with funds raised benefiting the MDI YMCA’s scholarship fund.

Those interested in registering for the MDI YMCA K.C. Jones Basketball Camp or attending the party and auction may contact the MDI Y at 288-3511, or e-mail info@mdiymca.org.
