GREENVILLE – Local police are waiting for the results of DNA testing in connection with an alleged sexual assault on July 6 involving an 18-year-old woman.

DNA samples from the alleged rape victim and samples taken from the only suspect were submitted for analysis to the Maine State Police crime laboratory for testing, and the results have not yet been released by the laboratory, Greenville Police Chief Scott MacMaster said Wednesday.

The woman, a visitor to the town, told police she had been sexually assaulted while attending a large party in Greenville that had dwindled in number by early morning. It was then that she allegedly was assaulted by a 22-year-old man who also was visiting in the town, MacMaster said.

The woman and the accused man were unknown to each other before the party, according to MacMaster.

After the alleged rape, the woman went to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft as a precautionary measure, MacMaster said.
