DIXMONT – The town will begin celebrating its bicentennial Sunday, and events will run through Aug. 25.
The Historical Society and selectmen will start the celebration at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 19, at the Town Hall, and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Dixmont Volunteer Fire Company will serve lunch along with a birthday cake at the Town Hall grounds.
Veterans Memorial Park, adjacent to the Town Hall, will be dedicated at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Several guest speakers are scheduled. The Richard Simpson Post 201 of the American Legion will oversee the ceremonies.
The week will include many events, including public suppers, games, sporting events, food vendors, a crafts fair and live music by Dave Mallett and the Misty Mountaineers. The celebration will close with fireworks on Aug. 25.
