The Maine Bowhunters Association is holding a youth and parent archery fun day on Aug. 25 at Old Town Archery.
The program, which will run from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m., is intended to help the MBA fund efforts in youth archery education through the National Archery in the Schools program.
No prior knowledge or experience is needed, and bows will be provided for the free event.
Children can win prizes, and an additional area will be set up for experienced archers to shoot for free.
Experienced archers can also participate in hourly “challenge shots” for prizes, at a cost of $5 per game.
The outdoor 3-D range will be open and passes can be purchased at the archery center or the outdoor range.

Bucksport courses on tap
A pair of outdoor safety classes are scheduled for the Bucksport area in the coming weeks.
A bowhunter safety course will be held at the Orland Town Hall on Aug. 24 from 6-9 p.m. and on Aug. 25 from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Call Troy Frye at 469-8905 for information.
A hunter safety course is set for the Bucksmills Rod & Gun Club in Bucksport. The class hours: Sept. 4, 6-9 p.m., and Sept. 8, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Call John Ladd at 469-2936.
Bangor Gun Show scheduled
The Penobscot Valley Conservation Association will hold its 30th annual Bangor Gun Show on Sept. 8-9 at the Bangor Auditorium.
Show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, and 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission is $6 for adults, $5 for NRA members, and law enforcement and military personnel with ID. Children under 12 get in free with an adult.
Those who join the NRA at the show will also get in free.
PCCA plans shooting primer
The Penobscot County Conservation Association will hold an introduction to shooting sports on Sept. 1 at a pair of local shooting ranges.
Attendees are invited to try shooting skeet, trap and sporting clays at the Hermon Skeet Club. They can also try shooting action pistol, cowboy action, gallery and outdoor pistol and rifle at the Hampden Rifle & Pistol Club.
Experienced shooters will teach beginners about the sport.
Shooting goes from 9 a.m. until noon and from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at both locations.
Participants must be 18 years old or older, and safety and instructional briefings, eye protection and hearing protection will be provided.
Firearms and ammunition will also be provided for the free program, which includes lunch.
The event is being funded by a grant from the NRA Foundation.
