SAN FRANCISCO – Ricky Jones of Thomaston finished his first nine holes of the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship in 2-over-par Monday, but a four-hour fog delay to start the day meant he won’t finish his round until this morning.
He is tied for 44th, based on his score compared to par, out of the field of 260-plus who have completed at least nine holes. A total of 312 are competing.
Jones, a two-time winner of the Maine Amateur and four-time champion of the Paul Bunyan Amateur, had a birdie and three bogeys on the front nine of the Olympic Golf Club’s Lakeside Course.
After he finishes his opening round, which is scheduled to resume at 10:30 a.m. EDT, Jones will move over to the Ocean Course for his second round. Tee times for the second round are tentatively delayed two hours, and Jones is expected to start about 1 p.m. EDT.
The top 64 players after the first two rounds will advance to match play starting Wednesday. The 36-hole final is scheduled for Sunday.
