Medway man pleads guilty in wire thefts

BANGOR – One of eight men indicted in January for stealing more than $100,000 worth of copper pleaded guilty Tuesday at Penobscot County Superior Court.

Paul R. York, 21, of Medway previously was charged with five counts of theft by unauthorized taking and eight counts of burglary.

He played a part in copper wire thefts between May and September of last year from businesses, hospitals, telephone companies and town governments from Lincoln to Island Falls.

Justice Joseph Jabar sentenced York to eight years in jail with all but two years suspended, and two years of probation. York also was ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution, Deputy District Attorney Michael Roberts said Tuesday.

Two brothers also involved in the theft were sentenced in May.

Jon A. Ladd, 24, of Medway was sentenced to six years in prison on an array of charges. He pleaded guilty to one count of theft and two counts of burglary in connection with the theft of copper last year from the Beaver Chester Power Plant.

He also pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property in connection with the theft of copper from the East Millinocket Waterworks and on a probation violation, according to Roberts.

Jon Ladd’s brother, Ricky Ladd, 20, of Medway, was sentenced last month to five years in prison with all but six months suspended in connection with the power plant break-in in Chester in September. Ricky Ladd also was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution.

A fourth man, Corey Loomis, 18, of West Enfield, previously was sentenced to four years in jail with all but one year suspended for two break-ins last May at the same facility in Chester. He pleaded guilty just before his sentencing to two counts of burglary and one count of theft. Loomis also was sentenced to two years of probation and ordered to pay $15,000 in restitution.

Charges are pending against:

Richie M. Day, 22, Medway, three counts of theft by unauthorized taking, four counts of burglary.

Michael Martin, 19, Mattawamkeag, theft by unauthorized taking, two counts of burglary.

Travis A. McMoarn, 22, Mattawamkeag, two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, two counts of burglary.

Robert K. Mulligan, 30, Howland, two counts of burglary, two counts of theft by unauthorized taking, aggravated criminal mischief.
