Ricky Jones tied for 17th

SAN FRANCISCO – Ricky Jones of Thomaston was tied for 17th after completing his second round at the U.S. Amateur Golf Championship on Tuesday.

Jones finished with a two-day total of 2-over-par 142 at the Olympic Club.

The low 64 (if there are ties, there will be a sudden-death playoff) of the 312-man field advance to match play starting today. Match play continues through Sunday’s 36-hole championship match.

Play was suspended Tuesday due to darkness, but the cut to get into match play was projected by the USGA to be 7 over par.

Jones was one of 159 players who had to finish his first round Tuesday morning before playing his second round later in the day.

He completed the opening round on the Lakeside Course at even-par 70, then played the Ocean Course in 2-over 72.

Jones, the two-time Maine Amateur champ and four-time Paul Bunyan Amateur winner, started his second round on No. 10 and birdied three of his first four holes. But he bogeyed the next three and turned at even-par 35. He bogeyed 3, 4 and 6 on the front before making birdie on his final hole.
