THORNDIKE – For the second time this month vandals have broken windows at Mount View High School.

Waldo County sheriff’s Detective Jason Bosco said nine windows were smashed with rocks overnight Saturday. The damage was discovered Sunday, he said.

Bosco said the windows were in a courtyard with picnic tables located behind the school that is known to be a gathering place for local teens. He said usually the activity in the courtyard is confined to littering cigarette butts and beer containers. Bosco said he took a cast of a footprint at the scene.

“It could be a kid’s, it could be the janitor’s,” Bosco said Tuesday.

Vandals also hit the complex overnight Sunday, Aug. 5. In that incident, 20 windows were smashed at the high school building, and graffiti stating “Belfast Rules” and “Cow Patty High” were spray-painted on the building and school sign. In addition, a car parked in front of the school had its windows, headlights and taillights broken and roof dented in the attack. Two sets of footprints were found near the sign.

State Trooper Terry Michaud is handling the first incident, and Waldo County Deputy Sheriff Scott Jones is handling the most recent vandalism.

“We’re unsure whether the two [incidents] are related,” Bosco said.
