Fusion Leadership and Vision Awards
BANGOR – Fusion:Bangor is seeking nominations for the Fusion Leadership and Vision Awards. Three awards recognizing outstanding leadership of the Gen X set in the Bangor region will be presented during FLAVA 2.0, the second annual dinner, on Friday, Oct. 19, at Spectacular Event Center, Griffin Road. Cianbro’s Peter Vigue will deliver the address.
“The FLAVA Awards are a great opportunity to recognize both current and future leaders within our community,” said Fusion chairman Chris Winstead. “This year we have an even bigger event planned, so the opportunity for networking will be even greater.”

The event will feature a cocktail hour, dinner, presentation of the FLAVA awards and a Ketel One After Party. Last year’s event sold out.

. Penobscot Theatre producing artistic director Scott R.C. Levy. He received the Horizon Award, recognizing an individual in the Fusion demographic who demonstrates a notable commitment to leadership and civic involvement in the region.
. Bangor Daily News executive editor Mark Woodward. He was given the Fusion Partnership Award for promoting the common good of the Fusion demographic while demonstrating support of its mission to strengthen the region.
. WBRC Architects-Engineers CEO John Rohman, former mayor of Bangor and chairman of the Maine Arts Commission. He was presented the Fusion Leadership and Vision Award for championing initiatives that better our region and encouraging young leaders.
Kennels association director
BANGOR – Carolyn Millar of Carden Kennels has been appointed Region 1 director of the American Boarding Kennels Association. Region 1 comprises Maine, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New Hampshire, New York and Eastern Canada. She will attend the 30th anniversary of the association at the 2007 convention in Sacramento, Calif., in October.
Dog training seminar
BANGOR – Don Hanson and Kate Dutra of Green Acres Kennel Shop attended a two-day seminar on companion animal aggression. The seminar introduced a new technique developed at the University of North Texas to work with several types of animals with various types of aggression issues.
Hanson and Dutra will be looking at ways to incorporate the technique into the treatment protocols they currently use with clients who have aggressive pets. For information, call 945-6841.
Rookie of the Year Award
BREWER – The Brewer My Gym won the Rookie of the Year Award during the My Gym Seminar on July 27 in Los Angeles.
The award is given to “the franchisee who has opened within the past year who best exemplifies the ideals for which My Gym stands by striving for excellence and operating with the highest integrity.”
Karen Kohlmeyer opened the Brewer My Gym on Oct. 2, 2006. She said she credits the business’ success to “our dedicated families and the entire greater Bangor-Brewer community which has embraced healthy exercise for young children.”

Basics of Business
BANGOR – A Basics of Business workshop presented in three sessions will answer questions, discuss pros and cons of being an entrepreneur and help those who want to start a business.
The class covers the basics of the business plan, marketing and cash planning and is suitable for those thinking about or in the early start-up phase of a new business. It is offered in partnership with the Women’s Business Center at Coastal Enterprises Inc.
