Greenville Citizenship Award bestowed upon ‘amazing’ man

GREENVILLE – Woodrouffe “Tony” Bartley is a giver, a doer and a thinker who was recognized Saturday for his dedicated service to his community.

Bartley was selected as this year’s recipient of the Citizenship Award sponsored by the Moosehead Messenger. His nomination was forwarded by the local newspaper to the Board of Selectmen who embraced the recognition.

“If there is a need identified in the community and someone is needed to champion the cause, Tony is the one to turn to,” Greenville Town Manager John Simko said this week.

Bartley not only has given of himself to the community, he also has encouraged his family members to do the same, and they have, according to Simko.

The former Piscataquis County commissioner is active in the Natural Resources Education Center, the Greenville Alumni Grapevine Scholarship Association, and his church. He has served in a multitude of positions in the town, including the Charles A. Dean Memorial Hospital board of directors.

“He’s really an amazing guy,” Simko said.
