At least two killed in Route 1A accident

ELLSWORTH – Early Saturday morning, police, fire and medical personnel were still at the scene of a fatal accident involving at least two vehicles on Route 1A about a mile west of town.

The accident happened at about 11 p.m. Friday, according to Daryl Clark, an Ellsworth fireman who answered the phone at the Ellsworth Police Department.

“The road’s closed and it will be closed for some time,” he said at about midnight.

He said little information was available because rescue personnel were still at the scene, but “at least two vehicles were involved and there are at least two fatalities.”
