Ball State nips UM in volleyball opener

MUNCIE, Ind. – Host Ball State University pulled out a 3-2 volleyball decision over the University of Maine in the Nike/Active Ankle Classic on Friday night.

Ball State won the fifth game 15-13 to snap a 2-2 tie. The Black Bears won the last four points to pull out the first game 30-26, the Cardinals took the next two 30-23 and 30-24, and Maine evened the match by winning the fourth game 30-25.

Junior hitter Lindsay Allman led 0-1 Maine with a match-high 21 kills and also had 13 digs. Brittany Kiehl posted nine kills and five blocks, Muncie native Ashlee Wright added 15 digs, and Paige Tortorello rang up 21 assists.

The Black Bears play two matches today, Ohio State at 10 a.m. and Southeast Missouri State at 5 p.m.
