Bethany Graffam of the University of Maine-Farmington was awarded a $3,000 scholarship. She works at the family farm and is a familiar face in the paddock.
Jean Emerson of Saco and Pompano Beach, Fla., was honored for her substantial contributions to the stakes program in Maine.
Emerson was the first secretary of the MSBOA and started the Northeast Harness News in 1980. In 1994, she became the first woman to be inducted into the New England Harness Writers Hall of Fame.
