BANGOR – Festival-goers, for the most part, caused few problems for officers, Bangor police Deputy Chief Peter Arno said Sunday at the department’s mobile unit stationed on the waterfront.
Bangor police reported several minor incidents during the weekend American Folk Festival, including one warrant arrest, a bar-related arrest at the Sea Dog, an intoxicated man who was asked to leave the grounds, and a woman spinning a flaming hula hoop and eating fire near the Penobscot Stage. Police asked her to cease and desist and allowed her to stay at the festival.
Bangor officers had more than two dozen four- to six-hour shifts to cover, for a total of 450 extra hours, Arno said.
There were a “handful” of heat-related health issues with one person transported to Eastern Maine Medical Center on Sunday, Bangor Assistant Fire Chief Darrell Cyr said. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
An intoxicated Bangor man seen lying on the ground in front of Kosta’s Restaurant and Bar on Wilson Street in Brewer was attempting to walk away from Brewer officer Jeremy Upham around 4 p.m. Saturday when he apparently stumbled into traffic, the officer said.
After Upham pulled Craig Joel, 46, out of harm’s way, Joel apparently attempted to punch the officer, according to the police report. Joel was restrained, arrested for disorderly conduct and transported to Penobscot County Jail. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
