STORRS, Conn. – Danielle Vasley scored on a penalty stroke at 48:07 to lead Sacred Heart to a 1-0 field hockey victory over the University of Maine Sunday.

The University of Connecticut blanked Maine 2-0 on Saturday.

Kristen McIntire stopped all three shots for 1-1 Sacred Heart.

Rebecca Giroux made six saves for 0-2 Maine.

On Saturday, Lauren Aird scored an unassisted goal in the first half to help lead the University of Connecticut past the Black Bears.

Lizzy Peijs scored in the second half with assists from Jennifer Kleinhans and Katie Semanoff for 1-0 Connecticut. Andrea Mainiero didn’t face any shots.

Maygan Cassarino stopped seven shots for Maine.

Maine drops two

At Munci, Ind., Ohio State University defeated the University of Maine 30-12, 30-19, 30-19 in Saturday’s opening match at the Nike/Active Ankle Invitational at Ball State University. Southeast Missouri State also beat the Black Bears 30-22, 30-23, 30-20.

In the first game, Lindsay Allman had eight kills for Maine. Ashlee Wright had 10 digs and Paige Tortorello added 16 assists.

In the second game, Allman added 15 kills for the 0-3 Black Bears. Amanda Armstrong had six kills, three blocks and three digs.
