OSAKA, Japan – Farmington native Kevin Eastler finished 28th among a field of 42 in the men’s 20-kilometer race walk Sunday at the 77th IAAF Track and Field World Championships.
Eastler, a 29-year-old Air Force captain now living in Aurora, Colo., was the fastest of two Americans. The Mt. Blue High School graduate was timed in 1 hour, 28 minutes and 29 seconds, while teammate Tim Seaman was 31st in 1:33:58.
Eastler was 41st after the first 5 kilometers in 22:08 and was still 40th at 10 kilometers (1:06:32), but a faster third 5-kilometer split (21:40) moved him up to 31st place through 15 kilometers in 1:06:32.
Jefferson Perez of Ecuador won the world championship in 1:22:20.
Anna Willard, a former Telstar High of Bethel standout, also competed in the World Championships with an eighth-place finish in the 3,0000-meter steeplechase (9:48.62).
