OAKFIELD – Investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office are still working to determine what sparked a blaze that gutted an Oakfield business Friday evening.
Investigator Tim Lowell said Tuesday that he is still working to uncover how the blaze at Cedar Ideas on Smyrna Road started.
“The amount of damage caused by the fire makes it extremely difficult,” he said. “But I am still talking to people and conducting interviews to try and determine what happened.”
The fire originated in the front of the building, according to Lowell.
Firefighters from four towns spent more than six hours battling the blaze, which broke out just after 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Cedar Ideas, which is a work site of Katahdin Cedar Log Homes, was completely destroyed.
The company, located just across the street from Katahdin Cedar Log Homes, uses the cedar left over from the manufacturing process to make window boxes, toys, planters and other items.
The Oakfield Fire Department received mutual aid from firefighters from Stacyville, Island Falls and Patten.
Lowell said Tuesday he is not sure when he will be able to determine the cause of the fire.
