FORT KENT – Brianne McGary, Liz Clavette and Shanae Armstrong each scored three goals to lead the University of Maine-Fort Kent Bengals to a 12-0 women’s soccer victory over the UM-Machias Clippers Tuesday.
Jodyann Blake scored twice for the 1-0 Bengals and Maria Williams added a goal. Liz Laplante didn’t face a shot.
Amanda Norbie stopped seven of 37 shots for the 0-1 Clippers.
Men’s soccer
UM-Fort Kent 6, UM-Machias 0
At Fort Kent, Dwayne Smith scored two goals and assisted another to lead the University of Maine-Fort Kent to victory over the UMaine-Machias.
Emlyn Jacoby and Andre Anderson both had a goal and two assists for the 1-0 Bengals. Andrew Martin had a goal and an assist and Miguel Gomez added a goal. Derrick Plourde and Ian Leppke combined for one save on one shot.
Kyle Lancaster and Pat Corliss combined to stop five of 20 shots for 0-1 UM-Machias.
Volleyball
Northeastern defeats UMaine
The University of Maine volleyball team fell to 0-4 after losing a 3-0 (30-20, 30-18, 30-20) decision to Northeastern at Memorial Gym Tuesday.
The Black Bears jumped out to a 4-3 lead in the first game, but the Huskies collected the next three points to take the lead for good.
In the second match, Northeastern broke open a 6-6 game by scoring 10 of the next 11 points for a 16-7 lead.
The Huskies roared out to an 11-3 lead in the third match, but the Bears responded, cutting the deficit to 13-9 with a 6-2 run, sparked by kills by Megan Smith, Emily Root and Amy Lawson.
However, Northeastern put it away by scoring the next four points to up the lead to 17-9 then took a 20-10 advantage moments later.
Jessica Woifenden had seven kills, two blocks and 11 digs for the Bears while Paige Tortorello notched 15 assists.
