Moosehead Quilters plan Greenville quilt show

Calling all Quilters! The Moosehead Quilters invite you to enjoy its “Quilts in the Woods Quilt Show” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, at DKB Catering on Pleasant Street in Greenville.

Lunch on the veranda offers a light meal with dessert and tea from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the raffle quilt drawing is planned for 2:30 p.m.

The Moosehead Quilters also hope you stop by the craft table, where you will find a variety of items for sale.

According to information provided by the quilters, who range in age from 7 to 80, you will view works from the beginner to the experienced, as well as the master quilter.

You can also learn all the latest quilting techniques and meet others who share the bond of your special hobby.

Quilts incorporating new techniques as well as old quilts with traditional design will be on display, and you will also see the raffle quilt that will benefit the Moosehead Quilters charities, including the Kiwanis Christmas Fund, Project Linus and the American Legion.

For more information about this organization or this event, call Libby Collins at 695-3858.

Brenda Davis and everyone associated with Crossroads Ministries in Old Town hopes you will lend your support to that organization by participating in its 1st Crossroads Ministries Golf Tournament with tee times at 8 a.m. and noon, Saturday, Sept. 1, at Kenduskeag Valley Golf & Country Club, 947 Grant Road in Kenduskeag.

The entry fee for the 18-hole, 4-person team, best-ball scramble is just $30 per person, and includes lunch, trophies, giveaways and raffles.

For more information, or to register, visit KVGCC or call 884-7330.

By the way, if you are unable to play, but would like to support this benefit, Davis told me that hole sponsorships are still available and welcome.

For more information about becoming a hole sponsor, call Crossroads at 827-1298 or KVGCC at the number above.

Crossroads Ministries is an ecumenical food pantry founded by Davis in 1991.

Writing on behalf of the Houlton Humane Society, Holly Henderson invites the public to participate in a Dog Days of Summer event to benefit the HHS from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 1, in the KeyBank Parking Lot in Houlton.

Henderson explained that Lorraine Monfils of Hollywood Pet Salon in Houlton is sponsoring the event that features something for everyone.

At Dog Days of Summer, Henderson wrote, you will find “lots of good food, events for the kids, a farmers market of locally-grown produce, homemade jam, Maine-made syrup, a perennial plant sale, dog agility demonstrations,” and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., carriage rides.

The benefit will also feature “a craft sale and raffles on beautiful homemade quilts, dog beds and blankets,” Henderson wrote.

Henderson is hoping for an excellent turnout for this event that supports the work of the Houlton Humane Society, which serves 27 towns in Aroostook County.

“Temporarily misplaced” is the term one special friend uses to describe anything I’m looking for that I can’t, at the moment, quite put my hands upon.

Have you “temporarily misplaced” your camera case?

If so, Bangor Band member Bob Pentland may be able to help you out.

Earlier this month, Pentland e-mailed that, after the Bangor Band concert on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the Paul Bunyan Bandstand on Main Street, he “found a camera case (without camera) that someone must have left behind.”

If you last remember having your camera case at that Bangor Band concert, give Pentland a call.

“If a caller can identify the case and the content of the case,” he wrote, “I will be delighted to return it.”

You can reach Pentland at work at Horton, McFarland & Veysey, P.O. Box 543, Ellsworth 04605, call him at 800-499-9108 or 667-5529, or fax him at 667-9915.

Spaces are available to rent for the Lura E. Hoit Memorial Pool 2nd annual Flea Market, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the pool, 146 Western Ave., Hampden.

The fee for the 10-by-10-foot space is $30, and you must bring your own table.

Spaces are being offered on a first-come, first-served basis and are secured with your payment.

For more information about space rental, call Darcey Peakall or Julie Macleod at the pool, 862-4305; Norman Stern, 862-5577; Karen Brooks, 862-3642; or Norma Bishop, 862-3725.

Proceeds benefit pool programs and scholarships.
