James, born in 1991, is a very pleasant child who has won the hearts of most who come into contact with him. James has bright blue eyes and a quick smile. He is a sensitive and quiet-spoken young man who speaks when he has something to say.
James is a fan of Spider-Man. He has many Spider-Man posters in his room. He is also a huge Red Sox fan and his favorite player is Trot Nixon. James had a great time participating in a WGME 13 Thursday’s Child while meeting members of the Portland Sea Dogs baseball team. He had a great bat swing and hit many of the balls the players pitched to him in the batting cage.
James has been in foster care for much of his life, and he has experienced many transitions and disrupted attachments. Loss and abandonment have affected James’ relationship skills and trust in those who care for him. While he has some cognitive challenges, he has a strength for understanding very concrete information. James will benefit greatly from having adults who will maintain an unconditional commitment to his well-being throughout his life.
James is among more than 100 children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services seeking an adoptive family. Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
