Colby graduate places 4th in rowing final

MUNICH, Germany – Colby College graduate Margaret Duggan and her U.S. teammates finished fourth Sunday in the final of the women’s lightweight quadruple sculls at the 2007 FISA World Rowing Championships.

China jumped out to the early lead, but settled for third place as both Australia and Great Britain forged past the defending world champions during the third of four 500-meter laps that made up the race. Australia finished in 6 minutes, 35.97 seconds for the 2,000 meters, followed by Great Britain (6:38.78), China (6:40.32) and the United States (6:41.82).

Germany (6:42.69) and the Netherlands (6:48.20) rounded out the six-team field.

Duggan, a 2006 Colby graduate from Bronxville, N.Y., rows for the New York Athletic Club and competed at the worlds with Sarah Bates (Garrison, N.Y.), Carey Brezler (Waynesboro, Pa.), and Hannah Moore (Niskayuna, N.Y.).
