While we in Washington County love our neighbors in Hancock County, we are separate entities.
Judy Harrison’s excellent article on the jail and prison gardens in Maine (BDN, Sept. 3), which mentioned Clean Earth Farms’ proposal for an organic farm to be the new state and county jail-prison, erred by stating that it was to be in Hancock County. It is, in fact, planned for Washington County, which is very important to us.
There will be a public meeting with Denise Lord, deputy commissioner of Maine Department of Corrections, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, in the Clipper Lounge at University of Maine at Machias to hear people’s ideas on programs for the new facility. Come join us if you have some ideas.
We’re working on making a difference in inmates’ lives so they don’t keep ending up back in prison, costing us lots of money and costing them their chances for a good, productive life.
We’d like to thank Judy Harrison for doing such an excellent story.
