PITTSFIELD – Sebasticook Valley Hospital President-CEO John C. May recently announced that Rehabilitation Services Director Pierre Rougny, P.T., O.C.S., M.T.C., has achieved board certification as a clinical specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Rougny is one of three physical therapists who became clinically certified in Maine this year.

To obtain board certification, candidates must submit evidence of required clinical practice in a specialty area as well as complete a rigorous written examination to demonstrate specialized knowledge and advanced clinical proficiency in a specialty area of physical therapy practice. According to the ABPTS, 26 orthopedic certified specialists now work in Maine and more than 4,000 in the United States.

Rougny has been employed by Sebasticook Valley Hospital since 1998, where he began as a physical therapist and advanced to director of rehabilitation services in 2004. Rougny manages 17 employees in SVH Rehabilitation Services and has been instrumental in expanding rehabilitation services to Newport in 2006.
