A Holden woman was taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after she ran into a stopped truck towing a utility trailer at the intersection of Main Road and Copeland Hill Road in Holden.

Holden Police Chief Gene Worcester said it appears that driver inattention caused the accident shortly before 10 a.m.

Wayne Gifford, 69, of Brewer was stopped at the intersection, waiting to turn left onto Copeland Hill Road when Candace Niles, 44, failed to see him and rear-ended the 1999 Dodge pickup truck and trailer with her 2001 Mercury Sable, according to Worcester.

Niles was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bangor. Neither Gifford nor the passenger in his truck needed to be taken to the hospital. Everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat belt. (Aimee Dolloff, BDN).

A person using a four-wheel all-terrain vehicle entered a private camp in Exeter and, after breaking a lock, took a shotgun and binoculars. While it is unclear when the crime occurred, it was reported Monday afternoon.

The thief drove the four-wheeler around a locked driveway gate to get to the secluded 207-acre hunting camp on Hawk Hill Road off Cider Hill Road, according to Deputy Josh Tibbetts of the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department. The single-shot shotgun is valued between $30 and $40, he said Tuesday. (Nok-Noi Ricker, BDN)
